Welcome to The Kid's Cupboard!

This is your page full of ideas and projects for you to do using household kitchen items. And we want to feature your own special recipes. So send some of your ideas to: carla@wvgourmetfoods.com and we'll add them to our collection.

Note to Adults:
Please read all directions, some recipes may require the use of a blender,
cutting of items or boiling water. Practice safety in the kitchen!

Homemade Bubbles

1 c. liquid dishwashing detergent
2 c. of warm water
3-4 T. of glycerine (you can find this at drugstores)
1 T. sugar
A few drops of food coloring (you choose your favorite color!)
Bottle for storage.

Mix together gently all the ingredients in a big container.
Use a container with a tight fitting lid or cap for storage.

You can use almost anything to blow bubbles: pipe cleaners shaped into a
circle at one end, plastic six-pack beverage holders, badmitton rack,
paper cups, plastic coat hangers, straws and funnels.

Fruity Play Dough

2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. salt
1 T. powdered alum
2 pkg. unsweetened fruit-flavored drink mix
2 T. vegetable oil
2 c. boiling water (parent's help required!)

Mix together flour, salt, alum and drink mix in a large glass bowl.
Add oil. Pour boiling water over flour mix
and stir well until evenly mixed.
Knead dough until smooth.
Store in an airtight plastic bag or container with lid.

Pumpkin Pie Play Dough

5 1/2 cups flour
2 cups salt
8 t cream of tartar
3/4 c oil
1, 1.5 oz. pumpkin pie spice
orange food coloring (12 parts yellow, 6 parts red) in 4 cups water

Combine all ingredients together. Cook and stir over medium heat until all lumps disappear. Knead the dough on a floured surface until it is smooth. Place in airtight containers.

Homemade Slime

Elmer's Glue
Food Coloring (pick your color)
Popsicle Stick (for stirring)
Borax (available at most large grocery stores)
Clear Plastic Cup
Water
Small plate, dish or plastic wrap

Beforehand, mix about a teaspoon of the Borax
into a cup of water and stir (it usually doesn't fully dissolve).
Fill the plastic cup with about 1/2 inch of Elmer's glue.
Add 3 T. of water to the glue and stir.
Add 2 drops of food coloring and stir again.
Add 2 T. of the Borax solution and stir well.
Lift out stick with the goo and place it on the dish
Let it sit for a minute and then pull it off the stick and have fun!

Colored Celery Leaves

2 - 3 stalks of celery with leaves
a tall glass of water for each stalk
food coloring
knife or scissors

Cut the bottom inch of each celery stalk with a knife or scissors. Squeeze 8 - 10 drops of different colors of food coloring in each glass, then place celery stalk in glass with the leaves up. Leave for 5 - 6 hours and see how the leaves have turned color from the food coloring from the celery "drinking" the water. You can do the same thing with the flower, Queen Anne's Lace!

Balloon Blow Up

1 medium-sized round balloon
1 pop bottle
1 tablespoon of baking soda
1/3 cup of vinegar
funnel

Funnel the baking soda into the balloon. Pour vinegar into the bottle. Stretch the balloon opening over the mouth of the bottle and hold to seal the balloon tightly to the bottle. Raise the top of the balloon to spill the baking soda into the bottle.
When the soda mixes with the vinegar, a gas forms and inflates the balloon.
